HomeMy WebLinkAbout75 0206 minMINUTES CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL WORK SESSION February 6, 1975 The City Council of the City of Plainview met in a special work session at 11:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall with Mayor John D. Stoneham presiding and the following Aldermen present: Keltz Garrison, Medlin Carpenter, Richard Cross, and Jeane Browning. Also present were Marshall Pharr-City Manager, Wm. R. Hogge-Director of Public Works, and Mike McGregor-Administrative Assistant. Visitors included George Wall, Jr. and C. W. Nall, Jr.-Texas Highway Department in Lubbock and LeWard Hood- Plainview Daily Herald. Mr. Wall presented specifications for the Texas Highway Department 1975-76 Urban Program. He stated that cities over 5,000 are eligible for projects under the program. The recommendation of the Highway Department would be the widening of State Highway 194 from Fifth Street north to Sixteenth Street to a width of 64' making four lanes and a continuous left turn lane. Discussion was held, on the procedure to follow for implementation of the program by various cities. It was moved by Alderman Carpenter, seconded by Alderman Garrison, to adopt the urban map as presented by the Texas Highway Department. as the official map of the City of Plainview. Motion carried unanimously. It was moved by Alderman Cross, seconded by Alderman Browning, to designate that section of State Highway'194 from Fifth Street to Sixteenth Street as the $1 urban priority on the urban system plan. Motion carried unanimously. It was moved by Alderman Garrison, seconded by Alderman Browning, to commit the City of Plainview's urban highway funds accumulated and sufficient funds to meet the project's total cost until the p~oject is financed.
