First item on the agenda: Approval of January 2004 minutes. Fred Willis made motion to
approve minutes as read. Kenny Brown seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
Second item on the agenda: BA Case # 1466. The request of Sylvester Quintanilla for a
variance of twenty-four (24) feet of the required twenty-five (25) foot front setback as stated in
Section 34 of the City of Plainview Zoning Ordinance to construct a 15'X24' carport in a Single-
Family Residential (R-2) Zoning District, and being Block 2, Lot 1, Unit 1, Thunderbird
Addition Plainview, Hale County, Texas the same being 2509 Lexington Street. Sylvester
Quintanilla is present to answer questions from the Board. John Castro showed the Board
pictures of the property and a site plan of where the proposed carport would be. There were four
(4) replies from the neighborhood, all in favor of the request. Sylvester Quintanilla said the
carport would be constructed of heavy-duty metal materials. Max Browning made motion to
approve the variance based on there being no other logical place for a carport and the positive
response from the neighborhood. Kenny Brown seconded. Motion carded 5-0.
Third item on the agenda:
BA Case # 1467. The request of David Denton for a variance of twenty-three (23) feet of the
required twenty-five (25) foot front setback as stated in Section 34 of the City of Plainview
Zoning Ordinance to construct a 20'X23' carport in a Single-Family Residential (R-2) Zoning
District, and being Block 8, Lot 7, Unit 1, Thunderbird Addition Plainview, Hale County, Texas
the same being 1112 W. 28th Street. David Denton is present to answer questions from the
Board. John Castro showed the Board pictures of the property and a site plan of where the
proposed carport would be. There were three (3) replies from the neighborhood, all in favor of
the request. David Denton said the materials to be used are sheet metal and steel poles. Fred
Willis made motion to approve the variance based on positive response from the neighborhood
and this being the only logical place for the carport. John Bickel seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
Fourth item on the agenda:
BA Case # 1468. The request of Daniel and Francis Gloria for a variance of twenty-one (21) feet
of the required twenty-five (25) foot front setback as stated in Section 34 of the City of
Plainview Zoning Ordinance to construct a 2 l'X21' carport in a Single-Family Residential (R-2)
Zoning District, and being Block 44, Lot W80'-9, Highland Addition Plainview, Hale County,
Texas the same being 1612 W. 13th Street. Daniel Gloria is present to answer any questions from
the Board. John Castro showed the Board pictures of the property and a site plan of the proposed
placement of the carport as well as a neighborhood map showing other properties in the area.
There were four (4) neighborhood responses received, all in favor of the variance. Ray Jameson
asked what materials would be used in the construction of the carport and Daniel Gloria said he
would be using steel and metal. Daniel Gloria said the carport would drain toward the street.
Fred Willis made motion to approve the variance based on this being the only logical place for
the carport and the positive responses received from the neighborhood. Max Browning
seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
