HomeMy WebLinkAboutLibrary Board Minutes 02-09-2016Library Board Meeting February 9, 2016 Present were Board members Leticia Gaucin, Joe Ed Sullivan, and new Board member Debbie Gallaway. Also present was Renee Williams, Genealogical Society president. John Sigwald, Librarian, opened the meeting by introducing the new Board member Debbie Gallaway who has been a dedicated volunteer at the library for about three years. The Library Board terms of members Stephanie James and Vice -President Melissa Wilkinson expired at the end of 2015. Stephanie renewed for another four-year term. The position of Vice -President needed to be filled, so nominations from the members present were called for. Leticia Gaucin nominated Joe Ed Sullivan, seconded by Debbie Gallaway, and was accepted by Joe Ed. All members present voted to accept the nomination of Joe Ed as Vice -President. Kenna Hatch continues to hold the position of President of the Library Board. The Board was provided information about the two Christian fiction authors that presented a discussion and book signing at the library in January. Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse delighted those who attended the program. Many of the library's patrons are familiar with Peterson's writings since several of her books are on the shelves. Woodhouse is a published author herself, but has collaborated with Peterson on only two books so far. Over thirty people attended this program, some as far away as Lubbock and Spur. The Friends of the Unger Memorial Library will be having their annual book sale Friday, March 11, requiring a membership fee (Single -$5, Family -$10, Business -$20) and Saturday, March 12, open to all. Several donations have been received for the sale. John pointed out that the library has had several dedicated volunteers helping get the cemetery data base up to date. They are Glenn Sullivan, new Board member Debbie Gallaway, two Mormon missionaries, and Sandy Lindeman who also does some postings on the Find -A -Grave site. Another volunteer has just started helping the last of couple of weeks. John informed those present that the City is conducting a study to update job descriptions and positions and compensation pay. This has not been formerly addressed in almost thirty years. All City personnel are being asked to complete a questionnaire describing duties and responsibilities. Results of the study should be available in four to five months. It was reiterated by John that his second edition of the Hale County Bibliography is still available (hardcover -$50, comb -binding -$30). He also shared that he has completed the supplement and it is available for free if one purchased a copy of the second edition. John announced that he is retiring and March 18 would be his final day as Librarian of the Unger Memorial Library. He shared that he and his wife would be relocating to San Antonio. John invited everyone to his retirement reception on Thursday, March 17, being held by the City honoring his years of service. More information would be available closer to time. Dismissal was at 4:50 pm. The next Library Board meeting is scheduled for May 10, 2016, but may be dependent upon hiring of a new librarian.
