HomeMy WebLinkAbout05.24.2004 BA MinutesBOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS MINUTES 5/24/04 BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Ray Jameson, Kenny Brown, Fred Willis, Bobby Brunson STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: John Castro -- Community Services Director, Katy Seals - Community Development Secretary OTHER GUESTS PRESENT: Armando & Sylvia Barrera, and Paul & Irene Walker First item on the agenda: Swear in new members: Ray Jameson was sworn in. Second item on the agenda: Approval of April 2004 minutes. Fred Willis made motion to approve minutes as read. Kenny Brown seconded. Motion carried 4-0. Third item on the agenda: BA Case # 1472 The request of Rosendo Cantu on behalf of Guadalupe and Rosa Solis for a variance of ten (10) feet of the required ten (10) foot side setback as stated in Section 34 of the City of Plainview Zoning Ordinance to construct an 18'6"X20' carport in a Single -Family Residential (R-1) Zoning District, and being Block 6, Lot 1 W20'-2, Junior High Addition Plainview, Hale County, Texas the same being 2219 W. 2e Street. John Castro showed the Board pictures of the property and a site plan of where the proposed carport would be. There were no replies from the neighborhood. Ray Jameson said the carport would enhance the beauty of the property. Kenny Brown made motion to approve the variance based on this being the only logical place for a carport and lack of negative response from the neighborhood. bred Willis seconded. Motion carried 4-0. Fourth item on the agenda: BA Case # 1473 The request of Armando Barrera for a variance of twenty-two (22) feet of the required twenty-five (25) foot front setback and five (5) feet of the required five (5) foot side setback as stated in Section 34 of the City of Plainview Zoning Ordinance to construct an 18'X20' carport in a Single -Family Residential (R-2) Zoning District, and being Block 8, Lot 3, Unit 8, Thunderbird Addition Plainview, Hale County, Texas the same being 1104 W. 28t' Street. Armando & Paula Barrera are present to answer questions from the Board. John Castro showed the Board a site plan of where the proposed carport would be as well as pictures of the property. There were two (2) responses from the neighborhood, both in favor of the request. Fred Willis asked if the carport would extend to the existing sidewalk and John Castro said it would be approximately three feet back from the sidewalk. Fred 'Willis made motion to approve the variance based on this being the only logical place for the carport and the positive responses from the neighborhood. Kenny Brown seconded. Motion carried 4-0. Board of Adjustment May 24, 2004 Minutes Fifth item on the agenda: BA Case # 1474 The request of Paul and Irene Walker for a variance of twenty-one (21) feet of the required twenty-five (25) foot front setback as stated in Section 34 of the City of Plainview Zoning Ordinance to construct a IO'X21' carport in a Single - Family Residential (R-2) Zoning District, and being Block 1, Lot 4, Carpenter Addition Plainview, Hale County, Texas the same being 2103 Houston Street. Paul & Irene Walker are present to answer any questions from the Board. John Castro showed the Board pictures of the property and a site plan of the proposed placement of the carport as well as a neighborhood map showing other properties in the area. There were two (2) neighborhood responses received in favor of the variance and none against the variance, Irene Walker told the Board the carport poles would be placed in the existing flower beds and that the carport would not be a prefabricated one. Fred Willis made motion to approve the variance based on this being the only logical place for the carport and the positive responses received from the neighborhood. Bobby Brunson seconded.
