HomeMy WebLinkAbout76-1924 ord76-1924 AN ORDINANCE PRESCRIBING THE SPEED LIMIT ON QUINCY STREET IN THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS, AT THE LOGATIONS HEt~.INAFTER DESIGNATED, REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH AND PRESCRIBING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATI~6N OF THIS ORDINANCE. WHEREAS, after an engineering and traffic investigation, the City Council of the City of Plainview, finds that cireumstances are such that the maximum reasonable and safe speed for the operation of vehicles under the conditions found to exist on Quincy Street, within the city limits of Plainview, is as prescribed by the City Ordinance hereinafter enacted; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW: SECTION 1: The speed limits on that portion of Quincy Street at the locations hereinafter designated shall be as follows: The maximum legal sp~ed limit on that portion of Quincy Street lying between the North boundary line of Sta~e Highway !94 to the intersection of Quincy Street and Twenty-fourth Street shall be thirty-five (35) miles per hour. The maximum legal speed limit on Quincy Street from the North boundary line of the intersection of Quincy Street with Twenty-Fourth Street to a point 100 feet North of the intersection of Quincy Street and Twenty-Sixth Street shall be forty~five (45) miles_ per hour. The maximum legal speed limit on Quincy Street from a point 100 feet North of the North boundary line of Twenty-Sixth Street to the South boundary line of the United States Highway 87 which is also_Interstate Highway 27 shall be fifty (50) miles per hour. SECTION 2: It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any motor vehicle which is self-propelled, automobile or motor-cycle on the above designated portions of Quincy Street in the Ci~'y of Plainview at a speed greater than that which is hereinabove designated in Section 1 of this Ordinance as the ~maximum speed limit. SECTION 3: Ail ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 4: Any person who shall violate or fail to comply with the provisions of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine Of not less than one dollar ($1.00) and nos more than two hundred dollars ($200.00).
