HomeMy WebLinkAboutR18-420152 RESOLUTION R18-420 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS, APPROVING THE REQUEST FROM THE PLAINVIEW HERALD AND MAIN STREET DEPARTMENT TO HOST THE COWBOY DAYS PARADE; AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF THE AGREEMENT FOR THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STATE RIGHT-OF-WAY WITH THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THIS EVENT; DECLARING THAT THE EVENT SERVES A PUBLIC PURPOSE; AND AGREEING TO COMPLY WITH REGULATIONS. WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation owns and operates US 70 (Olton Road) in the corporate limits of the City of Plainview; and WHEREAS, the City of Plainview received a request from the Plainview Herald and Main Street Department for police assistance in its Cowboy Days Parade on Saturday, September 15, 2018; and WHEREAS, this Cowboy Days Parade will include a procession crossing US 70 (Olton Road); and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Plainview finds that such event serves a public purpose in that it increases history awareness and tourism to the city; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Plainview, Texas finds it in the best interest for the citizens of Plainview that the Cowboy Days Parade begin at 10:30 a.m. and use the above referenced route; and WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation requires the Local Government to submit a completed Agreement for the Temporary Closure of State Right -of -Way for use of US 70 (Olton Road) in such public events as this Cowboy Days Parade; and WHEREAS, the City Council designates Mayor Wendell Dunlap as the City's authorized official. The authorized official is given the power to apply for or terminate such Agreement on behalf of the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Plainview that: The request from the Plainview Herald and Main Street Department is hereby approved to be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and using the aforementioned routes. Submission of the completed AGREEMENT FOR THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STATE RIGHT-OF-WAY with the Texas Department of Transportation is hereby approved. IV. The Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to execute, respectively, on behalf of the City of Plainview, all necessary documents, including the AGREEMENT FOR THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STATE RIGHT-OF-WAY to complete the Cowboy Days Parade preparation process.
