HomeMy WebLinkAboutR19-448233 RESOLUTION R19-448 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE U.S. CENSUS BUREAU'S 2020 DECENNIAL CENSUS PROGRAM AND PLEDGING PARTICIPATION IN LOCAL INITIATIVES INCLUDING A COMPLETE COUNT COMMITTEE. WHEREAS, the U.S. Census Bureau is required by the U.S. Constitution to conduct a count of the population every ten years and the decennial census provides a historic opportunity to help shape the foundation of our society and play an active role in American democracy; and WHEREAS, the City of Plainview, Texas is committed to ensuring every resident is counted as federal and state funding is allocated to communities, and decisions are made on matters of national and local importance based, in part, on census data; and WHEREAS, census data helps determine how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives and is necessary for the accurate and fair redistricting of state legislative seats, county and city councils and voting districts; and WHEREAS, information from the upcoming 2020 Census and American Community Survey are vital tools for economic development and increased employment. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS, THAT: The Council supports the goals and ideals of the 2020 Census and will fully support the decennial census program. Encourage all Plainview residents to participate in events and initiatives that will raise the overall awareness of the 2020 Census and increase participation. Encourage 2020 Census advocates to speak to city and community organizations. IV. Support Census workers as they help Plainview better understand the importance of completing Census forms and obtaining an accurate count. Resolution R19-448 2020 Census Page 1 of 2 234 V.
