RESOLUTION NO. p6-159
A RESOLUTION CANCELING THE MAY 13, 2006 REGULAR
ELECTION FOR COUNCILMEMBERS FOR DISTRICTS 1, 2, 3
AND 4 AND DECLARING EACH UNOPPOSED CANDIDATE
ELECTED TO OFFICE.
WHEREAS, in accordance with law a general election has been ordered
for May 13, 2006, for the purpose of electing Councilmembers in Districts 1, 2, 3
and 4 to serve on the City Council in the City of Plainview; and
WHEREAS, no proposition is to appear o~n the ballot in that election; and
WHEREAS, the city secretary has certified in writing that each candidate
on the ballot for Districts 1, 2, 3 and 4 is unopposed for election to office; and
WHEREAS, the filing deadlines for placement on the ballot and
declaration of write-in candidacy have passed; and
WHEREAS, in these circumstances Section 2.053(a) of the Election Code
authorizes a governing body to declare each unopposed candidate elected to
office and cancel the election.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THF_ CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS THAT:
Section 1
The following candidates, who are unopposed in the May 13, 2006, general
election, are hereby declared elected to the specified offices and shall be issued
a certificate of election:
Kelvin Tipton, City Councilmember District 1
Cathy Waggoner, City Councilmember District 2
Belinda Pena, City Councilmember District 3
John N. Bertsch, City Councilmember District 4

Section 2
The City Secretary is directed to post a copy of this resolution at each designated
polling place on May 13, 2006.
