HomeMy WebLinkAboutR22-577149 RESOLUTION R22-577 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS, APPROVING THE REQUEST FOR THE PLAINVIEW CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO HOST THE 2022 CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHRISTMAS PARADE; AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF THE AGREEMENT FOR THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STATE RIGHT-OF- WAY WITH THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THIS EVENT; DECLARING THAT THE EVENT SERVES A PUBLIC PURPOSE; AND AGREEING TO COMPLY WITH REGULATIONS. WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation owns and operates US 70 in the corporate limits of the City of Plainview; and WHEREAS, the City of Plainview received a request from the Plainview Chamber of Commerce event director for police assistance in its Christmas Parade event; and WHEREAS, the 2022 Plainview Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade event will include a procession crossing US 70 (5T" STREET); and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Plainview finds that such event serves a public purpose in that it increases the public awareness in the importance of our community involvement; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Plainview, Texas finds it in the best interest for the citizens of Plainview that the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade event be held this year on DECEMBER 1 , 2022 starting at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 8:30 p.m. and use the above referenced route; and WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation requires the Local Government to submit a completed Agreement for the Temporary Closure of State Right - of -Way for use of US 70 (5T" STREET) in such public events as this Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade event and WHEREAS, the City Council designates Mayor Charles Starnes as the City's authorized official. The authorized official is given the power to apply for or terminate such Agreement on behalf of the City. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Plainview that: The request from the Plainview Chamber of Commerce event Director for the 2022 Christmas Parade event is hereby approved. Submission of the completed AGREEMENT FOR THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STATE RIGHT-OF-WAY with the Texas Department of Transportation is hereby approved. IV. The Mayor is hereby authorized and directed to execute, respectively, on behalf of the City of Plainview, all necessary documents, including the AGREEMENT FOR THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STATE RIGHT-OF-WAY to complete the CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHRISTMAS PARADE event preparation process.
