HomeMy WebLinkAbout72 1002 minMINUTES CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING October 2, 1972 The City Council of the CitX of~ Plainview met in regular session at 7:30 p.m. in t~e Council-Chambers of the~City Hall with Mayor.~John Stoneham presiding and~ the following Aldermen present: Keltz Garrison, Medlin Carpenter, Neal Williams, Richard Cross, ~and Jack Oswald. Also present were Marshall Ph~r~.~fCity Manager~ Joe Sharp-City Attorney, M. L. Rea-City Clerk, Wm. R. Hogge-Director of Public Works, Harold Gladman- Director of Planning, Joknnie Ballew-Director of Public Safety, Robert Barnett- Director of Parks ~ ~ecreation, Norman Huggins-Director of .F~inan¢~e, Larry Martin-Administrative Assistant, and Linda Fisch-Administrative Secretary. VisitOrs included Tom. Aln~og~, Hugh Saxon, and Mike Wall. Invocation was Biven by Harold Gladman. A public hearing was opened on the annexation of land in the Vicinity of the Hale County Airport as recommended by the City/County Airport Board. Discussion-was held on the annexation and the p~blid~hearing was closed. Adoption of .~he annexation ordinance will be considered 'at the regular meeting of October 16th. It was moved ~by Alderman Cross, seconded by Alderman Garrison, to approve the minutes .of the zegular meeting held September 18, 1972. Motion carried unmuimous ly;~ ~ It was moved by Alderma~ Cross, seconded by Alderman Williams, to approve the minutes of the ~special meeting held September 29, 1972~ with an added correction concerning the leasing of 70? Broadway Stating that the motion did not carry unanimously. There was one vote against. Motion carried unanimously. Received for filing were copies of minutes of the Civil Defense Co~nmittee meeting held September 20, Board of Adjustment meeting he%d September 26, and Electrical Board meeting held September t9, 1972. It was moved by Alderman Cross, seconded by Alderman Oswald, to approve/paYment of fifty per- cent~of ,the~ budget no~t to exceeded-an amount of $54,564. ~ Motion' carried unanimously. Authorization ~for the installation of street lights-was tabled until~a proposal is received from Southwestern Public Service Cqmpany, r ~ ~' Received -for filing was a~ copy of' a' let~ter from the Texas Aeronautics Commission concerning application for airport improvements. Received-for filing was a copy of the revised City of Plainview Job . Classification and'Compensation P1an in accordance with ~the t972~73 budget. It was moved by Alderman Oswald, seconded by Alderman Garrison, to approve the'application from Pioneer Hi-Bred for solid waste colledtion at their facilities located outside the corporate limits of the City ~of Plainview at a cost of $3~.00 per month for pick up once a week of a eight CUbic yard dumpster. Motion carried unanimously. ~ Service will begin as soon~as containers become available. It was .moved by Alderman C~oss, seconded by Alderman Carpenter, to .authorize the City Engineer to proceed on negotiations for the widening of the west side of Broadway S~reet from the City Hall north'to 10~h'Street.
