RESOLUTION NO. R86-142
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS ADOPTING A STREET LIGHTIIqG
POLICY FOR THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW AND REPEALING ALL
SUCH POLICIES IN CONFLICT WITH SUCH.
WHEREAS, the City of Plainview is in need of a unifom street
lighting policy; and
WHEREAS, a copy of said policy is attached and hereby made a
permanent part of this resolution:
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and City Council that
the attached Street Lighting Policy is hereby adopted.
BE IT ~ RESOLVED that all policies in conflict with this
policy are hereby repealed.

CITY OF PLAINVIEW
STREET LIGHTING POLICY
I. Residential Street Lighting
1) Ail new installations and replacements of existing residential
street lights shall be 7,000 L.M.V.
2) When a new subdivision is submitted to the City it shall be
reviewed by the Director of Municipal Safety and Environment and the
Cc~pany providing street lighting to determine the number of lights to
be installed and the cost to the developer in accordance %~ith the
subdivision regulations.
3) A special request for a street light, where traffic patterns may
not warrant the installation of such shall be reviewed and a cost
estimate provided by the Director of Municipal Safety and Environment to
the requesting party. If the requesting party wishes to pursue the
installation of the light the request will be submitted to the City
Manager for review and a final determination made as to who the
responsible party will be for installation and operation cost.
a) One street light shall be installed at each intersection that
b~s ade~_ate traffic to warrant said installation.
b) Blocks which exceed 650 in length may be authorized for the
placement of a street in mid block if traffic conditions
warrant such.
c) A street lightmaybe located at major change of directions in
streets whenthe change is 30° or greater and traffic volume
warrants such.
d) If steel and/or undergroundelectrical service is requested,
the developer will pay all extra installation cost and the City
will be responsible for the w~od pole overhead rate only if
the City accepts such.
I_~I. Thorouqhfare Street Lights
1) All thoroughfare lighting design proposals shall be developed
and/or reviewed by the Director of Municipal Safety and Environment and
submitted to the City Council for final approval. (at the present time
thoroughfare lighting is 20,000 L.M.V.)
This policy was adopted through Resolution No. R86-142 by the Plainview
City Council on August 12, 1986.
