HomeMy WebLinkAboutR24-637475 RESOLUTION R24-637 A RESOLUTION ADOPTING A PUBLIC ART POLICY FOR THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW WHEREAS, the City of Plainview recognizes the importance of art and artistic expressions in enhancing the cultural, social, and economic vitality of the community; and WHEREAS, public art contributes to the identity and uniqueness of Plainview, fosters community pride, and enhances the aesthetic environment; and WHEREAS, public art can help foster community engagement by activating public spaces and creating gathering spots for Plainview and surrounding area residents; and WHEREAS, the City may desire from time to time to invest public funds, property, or other resources in the production of public art; and WHEREAS, a comprehensive Public Art Policy provides a strategic approach to the selection, placement, and maintenance of City -sponsored public art throughout the city; and WHEREAS, the Public Art Policy establishes a framework for funding, partnerships, and collaborations to support and sustain public art initiatives in Plainview; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW: Section 1. Adoption of the Public Art Policy The Plainview City Council hereby adopts the Public Art Policy, as the official plan for the development and management of City -sponsored public art in Plainview. Section 2. Implementation and Administration The City Manager, or their designee, is authorized and directed to implement the Public Art Policy, including but not limited to: • Developing guidelines and procedures for the commissioning, installation, and maintenance of City -sponsored public art. • Seeking funding and partnership opportunities to support City -sponsored public art initiatives. • Ensuring community engagement and participation in City -sponsored public art projects. Section 3. Funding and Budget Allocation The City Council shall appropriate funds as available, in the annual city budget for anticipated City -sponsored public art projects. The City Manager is authorized to seek additional funding from grants, donations, and other sources to supplement the City's funding.
