HomeMy WebLinkAbout04.16.2024 Unger Memorial Summer Reading Program City of Plainview’s Unger Memorial Library Offering Summer Reading Program The City of Plainview’s Unger Memorial Library is proud to announce the Adventure Begins At Your Library Summer Reading Program. Geared for children who completed kindergarten through sixth grade, there will also be activities and a reading club for teens (those who completed sixth – twelfth grade) and adults. st One popular program is the Reading Challenge. It will begin on Saturday, June 1 and th continue through Monday, July 15. The Challenge will be based on the time spent reading, not the number of books read. rd Minimum amount of time for each category is kindergarten through 3 grade - 15 minutes rdththth daily, grades 3 – 6 – 30 minutes daily, grades 6 – 8 - 45 minutes daily and grades ththrdth 9 -12 – 60 minutes daily. Third (3) and sixth (6) graders are welcome to participate in one of two different groups depending on their individual reading skills and interests. Adults are encouraged read a minimum of 90 minutes per day. Participants are encouraged to sign up for the program by visiting the Library to complete the form in person or online at www.plainviewtx.org. Registration is currently open and th is available through Friday, June 14. Once the submission form is completed, an email invitation for the ReaderZone app will be sent to track reading minutes. For participants who prefer paper logs, they will be th available in the reading packets. Beginning May 15, packets may be picked up from the Library during normal library hours. Also, the Library will be offering a variety of programs throughout the summer; the programs will be on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. and if possible, may be repeated the same thththnd day at 3:00 p.m. Dates for the programs include June 4, 11, and 25 and July 2 and th 9. th The first program, June 4 will feature Andy Mason showcasing his musical talents and th entertainment on Tuesday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m. The event is open to all ages. th Then on Tuesday, June 11, Reagan Doyal from PBS Kids will lead the morning program with fun for preschoolers and elementary students. th On Tuesday, June 18, there will be no daytime event; however, at 6:30 p.m., the Library will host “Magic Between the Pages” at the Fair Theater (717 Broadway).
