Library Announces Summer
Reading Challenge Winners
The City of Plainview’s Unger Memorial Library is proud to announce the winners of the All
Together Now Summer Reading Challenge.
This year’s grand prize winner was Sophia Moore, reading 11,150 minutes (185.83 hours),
reaching 544% of the goal for her age bracket. This is Moore’s third year in a row to be announced
as the grand prize winner; she received Sod Poodle passes and a special certificate.
Our second-place reader was Elora Massey, an early reader who read 2,075 minutes, reaching
307.4% of the goal; she received passes to the New Mexico Museum of Space History.

The goals for time read in each category during the challenge is Kindergarten through 3 grade -

15 minutes daily, grades 3 – 6 – 30 minutes daily, grades 6 – 8 - 45 minutes daily and grades

9 -12 – 60 minutes daily and adults 90 minutes per day.

The Reading Challenge began on Thursday, June 1 and continued through Saturday, July 15.
The Challenge was based on the time spent reading, not the number of books read.
Readers who hit specific milestones (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) were honored with brag tags
including:
Early readers (grades K-3) – goal was 675 minutes
Elora Massey – 2,075 minutes (307.4% of goal)
Anahi Ceniceros – 1,745 minutes (258.52% of goal)
Mitchell Moore – 1,715 minutes (254% of goal)
Geovani Ceniceros – 1,711 minutes (253.48% of goal)
Mason Mireles – 817 minutes (121% of goal)
Granger Shackelford – 677 minutes (100.3% of goal)
Trail Terrell – read 417 minutes (67% of goal)
Tell Terrell – read 317 minutes (47% of goal)
Mila Garcia – read 205 minutes (30% of goal)
Middle readers (grades 3-6) – goal was 1,350 minutes
Aaliyah Bautista – 1,710 minutes (126.67% of goal)
Tye Terrell – read 562 minutes (42% of goal)
Odalis Garcia – read 499 minutes (37% of goal)
Junior High – goal was 2,025 minutes
Sophia Moore – 11,150 minutes (544% of goal)
Adult Reading Challenge – goal was 4,050 minutes
Rosalina Rozales – read 8,185 minutes (202.10% of goal)
Kelly Shackelford – read 4,439 minutes (109.6% of goal)
Donna Waugh – read 3,650 minutes (90% of goal)
Vanessa Ceniceros – read 2,296 minutes (57% of goal)
Kendra Terrell – read 1,218 minutes (30% of goal)
The reading program included 67 registered participants with a total of 43,761 recorded reading
minutes, (730 hours or 31 days or 4.5 weeks); this number is most likely higher as not all minutes
for the challenge were reported to the Library.
Contributors to the Summer Reading Program include Friends of the Unger Memorial Library,
Collaborative Summer Library Program, The Texas State Library & Archives Commission and
Eastern New Mexico State University.
The summer 2024 “Adventure Begins at Your Library” Reading Challenge will begin on Saturday,

June 1 and conclude on Monday, July 15th. Summer programs will begin the week of June 3
th
and conclude the week of July 8.
