City of Plainview City Council Approves Modifications to
the Animal Services Code of Ordinances
The City Council approved modifications to the Animal Services Code of Ordinances
th
Chapter 2 at the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on May 19. The modifications
were recommendations from the Animal Services Task Force Report.
Modifications to the Ordinance Include:
- Updates to the Definitions Section
- Updates to the Animal Control Fee Schedule Section
- Changes the Impound/Holding Period from 72 hours to five (5) days
- Creates a Multi-pet Permit and Breeder Permit
- Changes number of animals allowed at a residence to four (4) adult dogs and/or
four (4) adult cats
- Appoints an Animal Services Advisory Committee
- Creation of an Animal Shelter Volunteer Policy
In October 2019, City Council appointed a 10-member Task Force, comprised of
volunteers from animal nonprofit organizations, a veterinarian and local citizens, to
evaluate the policies and procedures of Animal Control and the Animal Shelter.
