City of Plainview Awarded Texas Downtown Association’s Anice
Read Fund Grant for Downtown Streetscape Project
The City of Plainview was awarded a $5000 grant from the Texas Downtown
Association’s Anice Read Fund for bike racks and trashcans as part of the Downtown
Streetscape Project.
The project area includes three? bike racks to encourage bicyclists to come to
Downtown Plainview, allows space for citizens with different types of transportation a
place to park fosters a more welcoming place for all citizens and encourages more
people to ride bikes to foster a healthier environment and a more physically active
population.
The trash cans along the corner and mid-block bulb out will support a cleaner
downtown. Prior to the installment of trash cans, downtown visitors had no place to
throw their trash.
Grants from the Anice Read Fund are only available to members of the Texas
Downtown Association, must have a downtown element to be eligible, range from $500
to $5,000 and are awarded on an annual basis.
The Anice Read Fund is named for Anice Read, a founder of the Texas Downtown
Association. The Fund was formed in 1999 to honor her legacy and her contributions to
Texas downtowns. Grants from the fund are used for a variety of purposes including
physical projects, professional development, and program and staff development.

Day to day operations of the fund are managed by CFT, a nonprofit based in Dallas that
oversees funds for organizations, families, and businesses from across Texas.
