City Council Elections will be

The first filing date for a place on the ballot for
the City Council elections will be Wednesday,
January 19, 2022. Candidate packets are available at the Office of the City Secretary.

The election will be held Saturday, May 7.
Four districts are slated for election: Districts One, Two, Three and Four. City Council
Members serve a four-year term of office and are eligible to serve two terms (eight
years).
“We encourage anyone who is interested in serving on the Council to file.,” says Mayor
Charles Starnes. “There are many great things happening in Plainview and it is a great
way to make a difference.”
District One area includes the northeast corner of the City, District Two covers the
southeast corner of the City, District Three covers mid-part of the City and District Four
covers the southwest corner of the City. Maps with the specific area of the district are
available on the website.
To be eligible to run for City Council, a person must be a United States citizen; be 18
years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election; have not
been determined by final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be total
mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote; have
not been finally convicted of a felony; shall have resided continuously in the state for 12
months, shall have resided within the district for at least 6 months and is a registered
voter in the district from which office they wish to run.
Important dates to note include:

January 19 – First day to file for a place on the ballot

February 18 – Last day to file for a place on the ballot

April 25 – First day of early voting
May 3rd – Last day of early voting

May 7 – Election Day
“Candidate packets are available.,” says Belinda Hinojosa, City Secretary. “If you think
you might be interested in placing your name on the ballot, we encourage you to pick up
a packet.”
