City of Plainview Animal Management
Team Assists Reuniting Owner with Leon,
Cat Missing since October 2020
The City of Plainview’s Animal Management Team (Animal
Control) recently assisted reuniting a family with their cat, Leon,
who has been missing since October 2020.
“I took my daughter out to play and he normally wanders a bit,”
says Zoe Armstrong, Leon’s owner. “This time (Oct. 2020), he
didn’t come back.”
They checked with the shelter before with no luck but Marie
Rubright, Senior Animal Control Officer, recently noticed a cat
that looked similar to Leon.
She notified the family and when they arrived, the family confirmed it was Leon.
“I was surprised he was there because we had looked previously with no luck,” said
Armstrong. “The staff were very helpful, they saw how desperate we were to bring him
home.”
Armstrong picked up Leon last week. “Reuniting with him was surreal,” says Armstrong.
“He is very happy to be home. My daughter was heartbroken; now she won’t let him out
of her sight.”
“Don’t lose hope, don’t give up even though it may be hard,” says Armstrong. “We never
thought we’d see him again, but he was meant to be here. My daughter has her friend
back.”
The City of Plainview’s Animal Management team recommends coming to the shelter
and searching for your lost pet. If an animal turned into the shelter has identification,
they will try to locate the owner; however, only owners can correctly identify their
animal.
They also recommend microchipping your pet for quicker identification. Any local
veterinarian can assist, and microchips are the most comprehensive method for Animal
Management to reunite lost pets with their owner.
