City of Plainview Water Conservation Program Offering
Faucet Protectors, Winter Tips
Did you know the biggest threat to your winter time water bill is freezing pipes?
They can cause busted pipes that lead to expensive and unnecessary home
repairs and water bills.
With this in mind, the City of Plainview would like to encourage homeowners to
conserve water and keep pipes warm by using our annual winter conservation
program offering resident’s faucet protectors for outdoor pipes and faucets. A
special thank you goes out to Sutherlands HomeBase in Plainview for helping
to reduce the overall costs of the program.
Faucet protectors are available for Plainview residents on a first come, first serve basis. Residents
th
are eligible for two (2) and they may be picked up at City Hall, 202 W. 5 Street during normal
business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., closed during noon).
Also, below are some tips to keep winter pipes from freezing:
Use Insulated Spigot Covers — inexpensive and can save a homeowner from potential costly
repair.
Find the master shutoff value—it is where the water line comes from the meter box in the
street or alley. Be sure that everyone in your family is familiar with where it is located.
Wrap water pipes before freezing weather —especially pipes in the attic, an unheated garage
or cold crawl space.
For questions about the program, please call Neil Weems, Assistant Director of Water Utilities at 806-
296-1100.
