City of Plainview’s Code Enforcement
Staff to Resume Sweep Program in
Plainview
The City of Plainview’s Code Enforcement staff will
resume their sweep program- a concerted effort to
address a variety of existing code violations – on the
southside of Plainview. The sweep will be conducted
during the month of May.
The sweep will begin in the neighborhoods between
thrd
Ennis Street and Joliet Street from 11 Street to SW 3
Street (Area 5). The sweep will be conducted for
primarily residential properties but commercial
properties could be included.
Letters were recently mailed to property owners and renters. The letter will include the
type of code enforcement violations staff will be addressing and provide citizens
advance notice to address those concerns before sweep is conducted.
“The letters offer an opportunity to educate citizens on particular code violations,” says
Jeff Johnston, Assistant City Manager. “The goal of notifying citizens before the sweep
is for staff to not find any violations when the sweep occurs. As noted before, these are
not punitive sweeps but a concerted effort to keep the City clean.”
Concerted nuisance violations for the sweep include inoperable or junked vehicles,
improperly parked vehicles, accumulation of rubbish such as trash, refuse, junk, lumber,
and other abandoned materials, obstructed views of street corners, overgrown weeds or
grass and scrap tires.
The Solid Waste Department will also set out roll off dumpster the first two weeks of
rdththth
May (May 3 – 14) for the sweep. The dumpster will be located at 7 & Joliet, 9 &
Utica and Little Thomas Park (101 Aileen) and allow citizens the opportunity to dump
unwanted items including furniture, trim limbs, appliances and other household items. E-
waste (electronics) and flammable, corrosive, toxic, explosive or hazardous materials,
oil, items containing Freon, batteries, construction debris, liquids such as paint and air
conditioners will not be accepted as well as NO commercial dumping is allowed.
“Having the roll off dumpster in the area during the sweep will provide a place for
citizens to dump items without going to the landfill,” says Johnston. “We encourage
citizens in these neighborhoods to take advantage of the convenience of the dumpster
location.”
The City began conducting sweeps in 2019 and were halted in 2020 due to COVID-19;
the sweep program will now resume for areas across the City in the coming months.
The City has been sectioned off in various areas and each sweep will cover the specific
section and will continue until all sweep zones are completed.

Enforcement Department at 806.296.1100.
