Transitional Period of Downtown Streetscape Plan Begins
with Blinking Broadway Street Lights
The City of Plainview’s Street Department will begin converting the stoplights on

Broadway Street and the corners of 6 Street, 7 Street and 8 Street to four-way
ththth
blinking lights - yellow lights on Broadway Street and red lights on 6, 7 and 8

Streets beginning Friday, January 10. The lights at Broadway and 8 Street are
currently blinking.
Several years ago, the City commissioned an engineering study of the lights in the downtown
area. The study concluded that stoplights were not needed and traffic flow would be improved
with four-way stop signs. The City will be installing stop signs at the designated corners as a part
of the Downtown Streetscape Plan.
As a transition to the new stop signs, the Street Department will be converting the lights to
blinking and adding temporary stops signs on the side (numbered) streets. The City encourages
drivers to slow down in this area and be aware of these ongoing changes.
