HomeMy WebLinkAbout01.17.2020 Minimum Housing Demolition City of Plainview NEWS 901 Broadway St. Plainview, TX 79072 January 22, 2020 City of Plainview Continues Demolitions through Minimum Housing Ordinance The City Council during their Minimum Housing Standards Meeting approved four structures to be demolished at their October 22, 2019 meeting and City staff have completed several 607 W. 21st Street - Before of the demolitions. th Currently two of the properties located at 2205 W. 19 Street st and 607 W. 21 Street have been demolished. The other two properties approved for demolition are located at 2105 Kokomo Street and 1500 Joliet Street. In an effort to address substandard and dangerous structures in the community, the City Council overhauled the Minimum 607 W. 21st Street - After Housing/Dangerous Building Codes. This update included the adoption of the International Property Maintenance Code, 2015 and Texas Local Government Code 214 related to substandard structures. With the new process, a notice of violation is sent to the property owner and if no action is taken, the Board of Minimum Housing Standards can deem a structure substandard and the City can order the structure to be repaired and/or demolished in a given timeframe. 2205 W. 19th Street - Before “We make every effort to work with property owners to repair or rehab the structure if possible,” says Jeff Johnston, Assistant City Manager. “Unfortunately, saving the structure is not always possible. In those cases, our first preference is for the owner to remove the structure. If they are unable or unwilling, then City staff or a contracted company will remove the structure.” The next Board of Minimum Housing Meeting is scheduled for 2205 W. 19th Street - After Spring. ###
