The City of Plainview’s Fire and Police Department participated
in the funeral ceremony for Lubbock Firefighter Lt. Eric Hill and
Lubbock Police Officer Nicholas Reyna who died on Saturday,
th
January 11 while working a traffic incident.
Furthermore, the City of Plainview’s Fire Department sent six
firefighters to cover Lubbock stations during the funeral and
three more were on standby in case shortages arose.
Unfortunately, due to some icy weather the other three were
called in to assist as well.
Firefighters assisting in covering Lubbock stations were
Lieutenants Bryan Merrick, Joe Marks and Seth Stephens,
Equipment Operators TJ Marquez, Jordan Prater, Cameron
Lunsford and Kevin Walls and Firefighter/Advanced EMTs
Bryan Alvarado and Jesse Edwards.
Four of Plainview Firefighter Honor Guard Team assisted at the
cemetery including Captain Bobby Gipson, Captain David
Sells, Captain Harrison Hart and Lieutenant Kevin Goss. Fire
Chief Tim Gibson and Fire Department Chaplain Richard Dye
attended the ceremony at Rip Griffin Center.
In all, around 43% of the City of Plainview’s Fire Department was assisting or attending
the funeral while maintaining a full staff in Plainview.
Also, the City of Plainview’s Police Department Honor Guard attended Officer Reyna’s
funeral. The Honor Guard includes Detective Jesse Ortiz, Detective Andy VanCleave,
Sergeant Cody Ward and Lieutenant Jaime Salinas. Accompanying the Honor Guard to
the funeral was Corporal David Ballard.
“Any time someone is killed in the line of duty, it is tragic especially so close to home,”
says Jeffrey Snyder, City Manager. “I know our staff didn’t hesitate to step up to honor
these men and help their comrades in a time of need. Plainview is blessed to have these
men and women serving our community and we ask everyone continued prayers for their
safety and our friends in Lubbock.”
