Department held a Pinning Ceremony for the promotion of

Officer Malachi Hinojosa on Wednesday, August 14 at
the City Council Chambers.
Hinojosa was recently promoted to Police Corporal; he has
served the department since October 2021 as a Police Officer. A graduate of the
Panhandle Regional Law Enforcement Academy in Amarillo, Hinojosa was pinned by
his mother, Ruth Ybarra.
A ceremony to award and pin the police badge on an individual is a long-standing law
enforcement community tradition. Badges are presented to officers for two occasions –
graduating from the Police Academy or for a promotion.
The City Plainview Police Department mission is to maintain a safe and peaceful
community by providing effective and efficient law enforcement services through
community partnerships, public education, selfless public service and continuous
professional development. The department is authorized for 34 full-time sworn officers,
seven public safety dispatchers and two records clerks / administrative assistants.
