An invitation to respond to the 2020 Census forms will be mailed to
households beginning this week. The City of Plainview would like to
share some information about the census and encourage citizens to
respond.

Computers are available at Unger Memorial Library from Thursday, March 12 –

Friday, July 31
Unger Hours are Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.,
Tuesday & Thursday from 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m.
Census invitations will include an insert in the 12 non-English languages, inviting
people to respond online or by phone in their language.

Census staff will be at Unger Memorial Library on Tuesday, March 31 to assist
citizens with completing the census.
Census data is used for the distribution of more than $675 billion annually in
federal funds to tribal, state and local government and redistricting of state
legislative districts.
The census also assists state and local governments in planning and
implementing programs, services and emergency response.
Census information is confidential and cannot be shared with immigration or law
enforcement agencies and are not allowed for government benefit eligibility.
Census results are reported in a statistical format only and individual census
records are confidential for 72 years.
“Having all Plainview citizens participate in the 2020 Census is important for a variety of
reasons,” says Jeffrey Snyder, City Manager. “Besides legislative representation, the
census assists in planning programs and services for the City and determines eligibility
for many federal grants. We encourage everyone to Make Plainview Count.”
