HomeMy WebLinkAbout3.26.2020 Council Elections Moved to November City of Plainview NEWS 901 Broadway St. Plainview, TX 79072 March 26, 2020 City Council Elections Postponed Until November The City of Plainview’s City Council passed a resolution Tuesday night postponing City Council elections scheduled for May 2, 2020 to the general election day, Tuesday, November 3, 2020. The resolution was passed in accordance with Governor Greg Abbott’s state disaster declaration. “The safety of our citizens is our top priority and the COVID-19 situation has affected many aspects, including elections,” says Mayor Wendell Dunlap. “With the original early th voting scheduled to begin on April 20, we believe it is prudent to postpone the election until November.” Deadline for early voter registration is Monday, October 5, 2020. Early voting will begin on Monday, October 19, 2020 and end on Friday, October 30, 2020. Mail in ballot application deadline is Friday, October 23,2020. The election of Mayor and Districts 5, 6 and 7 are currently on the ballot. Charles Starnes and Raikolf Lopez filed to run for mayor. Susan Zeigler Blackerby (incumbent) filed to run for district five, Evan Weiss (incumbent) filed for district six and Eric M. Hastey (incumbent) and Patra Letty Moreno filed to run for district seven. ndrd All candidates who filed for the May 2 election will remain valid for the November 3 election and no new filing period will be reopened.
