Completed the Census
st
Census Day (April 1) is a key reference date for the
2020 Census. The date is used by the Census Bureau
to determine who is counted and where they reside
for the census.
st
“April 1 is a benchmark for the Census,” says Jeffrey
Snyder, City Manager. “It gives an idea of how many people have completed the census
and what avenues are needed to insure everyone is included in the count.”
Currently, 28.5% of Plainview residents have completed the census and 31.3% of all
Texas residents have completed the census.
“Despite the COVID-19 situation, the census is continuing to collect information,” says
Snyder. “As stated before, having all Plainview citizens participate in the 2020 Census
is very important for a variety of reasons including legislative representation, planning
programs and services for the City and determining eligibility for many federal grants.
We encourage everyone to Make Plainview Count.”
Citizens are allowed and encouraged to complete the census by mail, phone or internet
and it is available in many languages including Spanish. Census information is
confidential and cannot be shared with immigration or law enforcement agencies and
are not allowed to determine government benefit eligibility.
