The date is used by the Census Bureau to determine who is counted and where they reside for the census. st “April 1 is a benchmark for the Census,” says Jeffrey Snyder, City Manager. “It gives an idea of how many people have completed the census and what avenues are needed to insure everyone is included in the count.” Currently, 28.5% of Plainview residents have completed the census and 31.3% of all Texas residents have completed the census. “Despite the COVID-19 situation, the census is continuing to collect information,” says Snyder. “As stated before, having all Plainview citizens participate in the 2020 Census is very important for a variety of reasons including legislative representation, planning programs and services for the City and determining eligibility for many federal grants. We encourage everyone to Make Plainview Count.” Citizens are allowed and encouraged to complete the census by mail, phone or internet and it is available in many languages including Spanish. Census information is confidential and cannot be shared with immigration or law enforcement agencies and are not allowed to determine government benefit eligibility.
