HomeMy WebLinkAbout5.15.2020 Severe Weather Info on City Website, Social Media City of Plainview NEWS 901 Broadway St. Plainview, TX 79072 May 15, 2020 City of Plainview’s Emergency Operations Center Shares Severe Weather Information on City Website, Social Media With severe weather season upon us, the City of Plainview’s Emergency Operations Center has posted severe weather information on the City’s website at https://www.plainviewtx.org/467/Severe-Weather- Information. Items on the website include graphics describing the different types of tornados, the difference between a watch and a warning, heat warnings and other weather information. The page also features family emergency plans, financial and pet first aid kits and coloring books for kids which may be downloaded and printed for use. Lastly, it also contains a list of links to various government resource pages including links in Spanish. “Thunderstorms, lightening, hail and tornadoes are the biggest weather threat we have in our area,” says Jeff Stalcup, Emergency Management Coordinator. “The best thing citizens can do is be prepared – we encourage citizens to sign up for Plainview Alerts and check out all the severe weather information available on the City’s webpage.” Citizens may sign up for the Plainview Alerts, the weather alert system notifying citizens of potentially dangerous weather. Sign-ups are available at www.plainviewtx.org and click on the Alert button. Citizens needing assistance to sign up may call 296-1190. The City will also be posting the severe weather information on their social media thrd platforms the week of May 17 – 23. Citizens can follow the City on their social media platforms: Facebook – City of PlainviewTX, Instagram – cityofplainviewtx and Twitter – City of Plainview TX.
