7.29.2020 Solid Waste Residential Routes 2 Trucks
City of Plainview NEWS 901 Broadway St. Plainview, TX 79072 July 29, 2020 City of Plainview’s Solid Waste Department Move to Efficient Two Route System The City of Plainview’s Solid Waste Department (Landfill) will change residential trash pick-ups to a two-truck route system rd beginning Monday, August 3. With these new routes, resident’s trash may be collected on a different day than their previous route. Over the past two years, the Solid Waste Department has purchased two KANN© trucks. These particular trucks hold eight tons more trash than the current trucks requiring less trips to the landfill to dump. With less trips to the landfill, the drivers will be able to collect residential trash more efficiently. It also creates less “wear and tear” on the vehicles and saves money on fuel. With one less driver on the residential routes, this will create more manpower to ramp up the recycling program including more item pickups in the blue boxes in the alleyways. “We ask for patience while we adjust to the new route schedule but are excited to provide more efficient services to our citizens,” says Tim Crosswhite, Public Works Director. “With the added manpower, we will be able to increase recycling pick-ups and other efforts to keep trash to a minimum.” In the past, the landfill has run three different truck routes to remove residential trash. Residential trash will continue to be picked up once a week. For more information, contact the City of Plainview’s Solid Waste Department at 296.1152.
