HomeMy WebLinkAbout9.01.2020 CARES Recipient (002) City of Plainview NEWS 901 Broadway St. Plainview, TX 79072 September 9, 2020 More than $180,000 Provided to Local Businesses through CARES Act The City of Plainview working with the Plainview / Hale County EDC, Plainview Chamber of Commerce and South Plains Association of Governments (SPAG) awarded $184,300 small business grants to local businesses through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act. Fifteen local businesses received funds in the first round of applications and ten local businesses received funds in the second round of applications. To be eligible, businesses must be in operation for at least one year, located within the Plainview city limits and show a negative impact from the COVID-19 pandemic. Grants were awarded based on annual gross revenue and ranged from $2,500 to $20,000. Eligible expenses included public health COVID-19 related items such as PPE, hand sanitizer or masks, working capital such as overhead operations, payroll, rent or utilities or inventory and other items necessary for continued operations. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act, is a $2.2 trillion economic stimulus bill passed by the 116th U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump on March 27, 2020 in response to the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. ###
