Dates Draw Near for City Council Elections,
Polling Places Differ than in Past Elections
The election of Mayor and Districts 5, 6 and 7 will coincide
with federal elections in 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation.
Normally, Council and Mayor elections occur in May.
In March, the City Council passed a resolution postponing the City Council election
scheduled for May 2, 2020 to the general election day, Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
The resolution was passed in accordance with Governor Greg Abbott’s state disaster
declaration.
Important dates to note include:

October 5 – Deadline for Early Voter Registration

October 13 – First day of early voting

October 23 – Mail in ballot application deadline

October 30 – Last day of early voting

November 3 – Election Day
Early voting for City elections will be at the Justice Center Assembly Room located at
225 W. Broadway Street from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and from 7:00

a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15 and Thursday, October 22.

7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
The election of Mayor and Districts 5, 6 and 7 are currently on the ballot. Charles
Starnes and Raikolf Lopez filed to run for mayor. Susan Zeigler Blackerby (incumbent)
filed to run for district five, Evan Weiss (incumbent) filed for district six and Eric M.
Hastey (incumbent) and Patra Letty Moreno filed to run for district seven.
