to Citizens on Tuesday, Jan. 15
Unger Memorial Library recently joined the West Texas Library Consortium. A digital library
with more than fifteen member libraries in the region, this program provides a wide selection
of popular digital e-books, audiobooks, magazines and streaming video from the library’s
th
website. Available to the public on Tuesday, January 15, citizens can borrow from the digital
collection for free anytime, anywhere with a library card.
To access the program, citizens who currently have a library card will need to stop by the library
(825 Austin) for a first-time registration of the program. Those without a library card can be
registered in conjunction with obtaining a library card. Once registered, citizens can visit the
Unger Memorial Page of the City’s website, www.plainviewtx.org, and click on the logo titled
West Texas Digital Consortium. Citizens can also download the app, Libby, to access the digital
library.
Citizens may browse the library’s digital collection, instantly borrow titles and start reading,
listening or watching for free. This service is compatible with all major computers and devices,
all titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period and there are no late fees.
“Many of our patrons have been asking for e-book access to popular fiction and non-fiction
books. We are happy to be able to offer this collection to those who use their digital devices to
read popular e-books,” says Cynthia Peterson. “By sharing this collection with other libraries,
we are able to access more titles than might have been possible by ourselves. Each member
library adds to the collection and everyone who is a patron in a member library can access all
the titles.”
Unger Memorial Library, through the West Texas Digital Consortium, has more than 12,000 e-
book and more than 14,000 Kindle titles in their catalog including collections such as best-
sellers, children’s, business, romance and something for readers of all ages. The library also
offers a collection of audiobooks, the fastest growing segment of the publishing industry that
offers the convenience of listening on the go.
To acquire a library card, stop by the Unger Memorial Library to register. Cards are mailed
within a day or two and as soon as citizens obtain their card, it can be used for e-books as well
as checking out materials at the library.
Located at 825 Austin Street, the library is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m.
