HomeMy WebLinkAbout3.1.19 Sweep City of Plainview NEWS 901 Broadway St. Plainview, TX 79072 February 28, 2019 City of Plainview Code Enforcement to begin Sweeps for Nuisance Violations in Southeast Side of Plainview In an effort to keep Plainview safe and free from various nuisance violations, the Code Enforcement Department will begin conducting a sweep – a concerted effort to address a variety of existing code violations beginning st April 1. The sweeps will begin in the area east of South Milwee Street along Highway 70 as well as Section 7 of the map that includes the southeast portion of the City from Columbia to the west side of Date Street and from Highway 70 to the southern end of the City (along Bryan Street). “This is not a punitive sweep that the City is looking to do,” says Jeff Johnston, Community Development Manager. “We are notifying citizens of the violations we will be addressing and will give the public time to address those concerns. Ideally, we would like to send the letter and then when we conduct the ‘sweep’ there are no violations.” Concerted nuisance violations for the sweep include inoperable or junked vehicles, improperly parked vehicles, accumulation of rubbish such as trash, refuse, junk, lumber, and other abandoned materials, obstructed views of street corners, overgrown weeds or grass and scrap tires. “Letters will be sent to residents in these areas and then we will begin the sweeps at the beginning of April,” says Johnston. “The letters will include the type of code enforcement violations we are looking to address and citizens are always welcome to contact us with questions or concerns.” This will be the first of several sweeps Code Enforcement will be conducting. They have sectioned off the City in various areas and each sweep will cover that section until they have conducted a sweep across the entire City. For more information about the sweep or any nuisance violations, contact the Code Enforcement Department at 806.296.1100 or jjohnston@plainviewtx.org. ###
