City of Plainview’s Code Enforcement Staff to begin
Second Area for Sweeps on the Westside of Plainview
The City of Plainview’s Code Enforcement staff will begin their second area
of sweeps - a concerted effort to address a variety of existing code violations
– on the west side of Plainview. The sweep will be conducted the week of
thth
September 16 – 20.
The sweeps will begin in the Westgate and Westridge neighborhoods – all
areas west of I-27. The sweep will be conducted for residential properties
only, commercial properties will not be included.
Letters will be mailed to residential property owners and renters this week.
The letter will include the type of code enforcement violations staff will be
addressing and provide citizens advance notice to address those concerns
before sweeps are conducted.
“The letters offer an opportunity to educate citizens on particular code violations,” says
Jeff Johnston, Assistant City Manager. “The goal of notifying citizens before the sweeps
is for staff to not find any violations when the sweeps occur. As noted before, these are
not punitive sweeps but a concerted effort to keep the City clean.”
Concerted nuisance violations for the sweep include inoperable or junked vehicles,
improperly parked vehicles, accumulation of rubbish such as trash, refuse, junk, lumber,
and other abandoned materials, obstructed views of street corners, overgrown weeds or
grass and scrap tires.
The Solid Waste Department will debut their new roll off dumpster for the sweep. The
dumpster will be located at the corner of Kermit Street and Garland Street in Westgate
and allow citizens the opportunity to dump unwanted items including furniture, trim
limbs, appliances and other household items. E-waste (electronics) and flammable,
corrosive, toxic, explosive or hazardous materials, oil, items containing Freon, batteries,
construction debris, liquids such as paint and air conditioners will not be accepted as
well as NO commercial dumping is allowed.
“Having the roll off dumpster in the area during the sweep will provide a place for
citizens to dump items without going to the landfill,” says Johnston. “We encourage
citizens in these neighborhoods to take advantage of the convenience of the dumpster
location.”
The City conducted a sweep earlier this year and will continue conducting sweeps
across the City in the coming months. They have sectioned off the City in various areas
and each sweep will cover the specific section and will continue until all sweep zones
are completed.

Enforcement Department at 806.296.1100.
