The CCC will serve as “census ambassadors” playing an integral part in ensuring a complete and accurate count of the community in the 2020 Census. The committee will identify areas of the community that may need extra efforts, such as a geographical area or population group that might be difficult to count and use a “grassroots” approach to working with organizations and groups who have direct contact with households who may be hard to count. Citizens from various organizations, neighborhoods and communities within the City are needed to serve on the committee. The first meeting of the CCC will be in October and th the deadline to join the committee is Monday, September 30. To join, citizens may email Belinda Hinojosa at bhinojosa@plainviewtx.org or call 296.1100. “Having all Plainview citizens participate in the 2020 Census is important for a variety of reasons,” says Jeffrey Snyder, City Manager. “Besides legislative representation, the census assists in planning programs and services for the City and determines eligibility for many federal grants. We encourage community members to serve on this committee to ensure that everyone is counted.” Census data is used for the distribution of more than $675 billion annually in federal funds to tribal, state and local government, redistricting of state legislative districts and assists state and local governments in planning and implementing programs, services and emergency response. Census information is confidential and cannot be shared with immigration or law enforcement agencies and are not allowed for government benefit eligibility. Census results are reported in a statistical format only and individual census records are confidential for 72 years. For more information about the Census Committee, call 296.1100. ###
