The first filing date for a place on the ballot for the City

Council elections will be Wednesday, January 15. Candidate packets will be available at the
rd
Office of the City Secretary beginning Friday, January 3 and the election will be held Saturday,
nd
May 2.
The Mayor position and Districts Five, Six and Seven are slated for election. The Mayor and City
Councilmembers serve a four-year term of office and are eligible to serve two consecutive
terms (eight years).
District Five area includes the northwest corner of the City, District Six covers the middle
section of the City and District Seven covers the northeast area of the City. Maps with the
specific area of the district are available on the website.
To be eligible to run for City Council, a person must be a United States citizen; be 18 years of
age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election; have not been determined
by final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be total mentally incapacitated or
partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote; have not been finally convicted of a
felony; shall have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and shall have resided within
the district from which said councilmember is to be elected for at least 6 months and be
registered to vote in the territory from which the office is elected.

April 20 – First day of early voting

April 28 – Last day of early voting

May 2 – Election Day

“Candidate packets will be available on Friday the 3,” says Belinda Hinojosa, City Secretary. “If
you think you might be interested in placing your name on the ballot, we encourage you to pick
up a packet.”
