HomeMy WebLinkAbout3.9.18 Spring Break Events City of Plainview NEWS 901 Broadway St. Plainview, TX 79072 March 9, 2018 st Fair Theater 1 Annual Spring Break Movie Days/Other Events Downtown and around Plainview st The Fair Theater is proud to announce their 1 Annual Fair Theater Spring Break Movie Days next week. The Fair will present Despicable Me 3 on Wednesday (3/14), Paddington on Thursday (3/15) and Coco on Friday (3/16). Movie times are 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for all three days. Ticket prices are $2/adults and $1/kids 12 and under and concessions will be available. Despicable Me 3 sees the mischievous Minions hope that Gru will return to a life of crime after the new boss of the Anti-Villain League fires him. Instead, Gru decides to remain retired and travel to Freedonia to meet his long-lost twin brother for the first time. The reunited siblings soon find themselves in an uneasy alliance to take down the elusive Balthazar Bratt, a former 1980s child star who seeks revenge against the world. Paddington features a young bear (Ben Whishaw) who makes his way to England in search of a new home after a deadly earthquake destroys his home in Peruvian rainforest. The bear, dubbed "Paddington" for the London train station, finds shelter with the family of Henry (Hugh Bonneville) and Mary Brown (Sally Hawkins). Although Paddington's amazement at urban living soon endears him to the Browns, someone else has her eye on him: Taxidermist Millicent Clyde (Nicole Kidman) has designs on the rare bear and his hide. Coco features a young Miguel who dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz despite his family's generations-old ban on music. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead. After meeting a charming trickster named Héctor, the two new friends embark on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history. All movies are rated PG. On Friday, March 16, the Contemporary Art Museum Plainview (CAMP) will open its second major exhibition from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. to be called “THE BIG FLIP” The Art of Skateboarding. What ties them all together is that the main impetus for their art is their love of skateboarding. The five artists in this exhibition are not only champion skateboarders but they have had their artwork published in books and magazines, collected some very impressive commercial clients and have shown their artwork in galleries and in both regional and national museums. Finishing off a week of Spring Break Celebrations will the th Skate Board Competition at the Plainview Skate Park (6 & th Joliet) on Saturday, March 17. Organized by Lubbock Skateboard, the competition will include competitions for all levels of skaters and entries are only $5.00. Sign-ups begin at 10:00 a.m. and amenities will be available.
