Community Development Manager Jeff Johnston begins
tenure for the City of Plainview
Jeff Johnston recently began his tenure as the Community Development
Manager for the City of Plainview.
As the new Community Development Manager, Johnston will oversee six departments –
Building Inspections, Code Enforcement, Planning and Zoning, Plainview/Hale County Health
Department, Animal Control and the Library.
A native West Texan, Johnston received a B.A. in Political Science/Pre-Law and a Master’s
Degree in Public Administration from Texas Tech University. Before working for City
government, Johnston worked as a carpenter, owned a construction company and worked as a
Building Inspector. He then joined the City of Lubbock as a Structural Inspector for several
years, served as the City Manager for Petersburg for two years and the City Manager for
Floydada for more than four years.
“We are excited to have Jeff join our team at the City,“ says Jeffrey Snyder, City Manager. “His
experience in City Management, building inspections, code enforcement as well as planning
and zoning related issues will be a tremendous benefit to our organization and our
community.”
Johnston is married to AJ, who will begin teaching in Plainview next Fall, and they have two
children – Addison and Alexandra. Johnston also has a son, Josh, who is a software engineer in
Dallas and married to Raychel, an executive chef at the Dallas Cowboy’s Star Restaurant.
“Plainview has become the talk of the Panhandle with the amount of city wide reinvestments
that are being made,” says Johnston. “I am a West Texas raised Red Raider with some family
roots here in Plainview and we cannot be more excited to be moving into a community with so
much going on. Even better, we look forward to being a part of Plainview and involved at the
ground floor of so many city projects.”
