Rusty Powers, City of Plainview Fire Chief, set to
Retire on June 1st
The City of Plainview announces the retirement of Fire Chief Rusty

Powers effective June 1.
Powers has served as the Fire Chief since January 2009 and has
been a member of the department for 28 years. He began as a
firefighter/paramedic in 1990, served as an equipment operator,
lieutenant and captain before he was promoted to Fire Chief. He
also worked in the family business and was the EMS Director for
the Olton Volunteer Ambulance Association from 1998-2008.
Besides his role as Fire Chief, Powers serves as a volunteer and training officer for the Olton
Ambulance Association, Vice Chair of the South Plains Emergency Medical Services, two terms as
the Chair and is an Executive Board member of the Regional Advisory Council (RAC) B and is a
member of the Plainview Lion’s Club.
“It has been an honor and privilege to work with Chief Powers. I appreciate his dedication and
many years of service to this community and the City of Plainview,” says City Manager Jeffrey
Snyder. “Rusty will be missed, but we are excited to see him start this next chapter in his life.”
Powers, and his wife of 33 years, Missy, have three children – Tyeson Powers, a paramedic with
UMC EMS, Mason Powers, a paramedic with UMC EMS and Presley Powers, a dispatcher with
the City of Plainview and five grandchildren.
“It has been great working for the City of Plainview for the last 28 years. This community is a great
place to live, work and to raise a family and the people of this community are very special and
make living here a true blessing,” says Powers.
“I want to thank my wife, Missy, and all of my family for their support for all these years. The
sacrifices and missed family events is something that every firefighter, as well as their families
have to deal with. I also want to thank all the current and past City Council members and the City
management team that I have worked so closely with, it has been great working within such a
team. Finally, I want to thank the citizens of Plainview for their support and trust.”

A come and go reception will be held for Rusty on Friday, June 1 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Fire
rd
Station 3 (3405 SW 3 Street). The public is encouraged to attend.
