City of Plainview welcomes Cynthia Peterson as
new Unger Memorial Chief Librarian, Open House
scheduled
The City of Plainview has hired Cynthia Peterson as the new Unger
Memorial Chief Librarian. She will begin her tenure on August 13th.
As the Chief Librarian, Peterson will be responsible for overseeing
operations at Unger Memorial Library including circulation, programs
and various databases as well as working with library personnel and
volunteers.
“Cynthia brings a vast knowledge of programs and interesting ideas to the position,”
said Jeff Johnston, Community Development Manager. “She will be a great asset to the
library and the community.”
Peterson recently served as the Librarian at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall
for more than seventeen years and has spent most of her career in college or university
library settings.
“I am excited to be in a public library again,” Peterson said. “I know that this job will
entail a lot of work but it will also be fun. I look forward to working with all age groups,
expand and build on the things that are working and bring some new things to the
position.”
Peterson received a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Baylor University, a
Bachelor’s in Music from Mars Hill University and her Masters of Library Science from
the University of North Texas.

An Open House hosted by Friends of the Library is scheduled for Thursday, August 23
from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. at Unger Memorial Library, 825 Austin. The public is invited to
welcome Cynthia to Plainview.
