Bruce Ure, Texas Law Enforcement Medal of Valor
Award Winner for Heroic Acts during the Las Vegas
Massacre, Scheduled to Speak in Plainview
Bruce Ure, Seguin Deputy Police Chief and Texas Medal of
th
Valor winner will be in Plainview on Wednesday, November 14
at Harvest Christian Fellowship (4411 Olton Road). The event is
scheduled from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and the public is
encouraged to attend.
Ure will speak about his heroic actions during the Harvest 91 Country Musical Festival
in Las Vegas. During the Festival, a gunman shot more than 1,100 rounds into the
crowd of people, killing 58 people and injuring more than 850 people.
While attending the concert, Ure successfully placed a tourniquet on an arterial bleed
from a gunshot victim, rendered medical aid and commandeered a vehicle that
transported three patients to a nearby Las Vegas trauma center. He also sustained a
hand injury from the bullet shrapnel that landed about four inches from where he was
lying.
For his actions, Ure received the 2018 State of Texas Law Enforcement Medal of Valor
Award. This honor, bestowed on 22 officers from hundreds of applications, is awarded
to officers who display an act of personal heroism or bravery which exceeds the normal
expectations of a job performance, such as placing one’s own life in jeopardy to save
another person’s life, preventing serious bodily injury to another or preventing the
consequences of a criminal act.
“He is a sought out speaker whose heroic actions are not only learning tools for law
enforcement but encouraging words for everyone,” says Police Chief Ken Coughlin.
“While many law enforcement officials from around the area will be joining us to hear
Bruce speak, we encourage the public to attend as well.”
