Mark Marley’s Go BIG or Go Home BBQ Bash will be held on Friday and
thth
Saturday, May 4 and 5, at the Running Water Draw (Kidsville) Park. The
event will include a state-sanctioned barbecue cook-off, concerts featuring
Reckless Kelly and Kody West and many other activities at the event this
year.
The State-Sanctioned Barbecue Cook-off begins on Friday and includes a
Fajita Cook-off, Hot Sauce Blend-off and Margarita Mix-off. Friday night,
sponsored by Xcel Energy, will also include the Kid’s Q – a cook-off for kids.
Lastly, the Steak Cook Association (SCA) Steak Cook-off will be held on Friday night as well. Winner of this
event will be a SCA Championship Qualifier as well as a World Food Championship Qualifier - the second year
that the Mark Marley Bash has received this designation for the cooks.
Saturday Cook-off includes four meat categories (pork spare ribs, chicken, pork butt and brisket) as well as an
optional Cook’s Choice category, Jackpot Beans category, Bloody Mary Mix-Off and a CASI Chili Cook-off.
Entry fees for each event vary between $15 - $150 and no association memberships are required to enter. To

“Having a State-Sanctioned Barbeque Cook-off in Plainview draws a great crowd of participants,” said
RaeAnne King, event co-chair. “People enjoy participating in our event to not only hone their skills but also to
compete for a qualifying spot at the American Royal in Kansas City as well as the chance at the Jack Daniels
Invitational.”
Headliners for this year’s event feature Kody West on Friday night and Reckless Kelly on Saturday night.
Other bands performing at the Bash include Jason Nutt, Dave and Carley, Jack Cryver, Seth Ward, Drake
Hayes, Dalton Domino, and Mariachi los Galleros during the day for a Cinco de Mayo celebration.
Other events include a Car Show, sponsored by Ana Borrego State Farm, will be held on Saturday morning
from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00pm and is in memory of Raymond Hooks. The show will be in the parking lot of the park
and entry fee is $25 per car. To enter the car show, contact Joyce Sinor.
The 3-person sand volleyball tournament, will utilize the two volleyball fields recently added to Kidsville Park.
Entry fee for the tournament is $50/per team and there will be prizes for the winner of the tournament. To enter
the tournament or for more information, contact Teena Bennett.
“Several citizens have asked that sand volleyball courts be built and the Parks department added them this
winter,” said Melinda Brown, event co-chair. “They have been utilized often and we look forward to using them
for a tournament for the Bash.”
A doubles horseshoe tournament will be held again this year on Saturday beginning at noon. The double
elimination bracket is $30.00 per team, belt buckles will be awarded to the top team and the tourney pits meet
NHPA regulations. To enter the tournament, contact Melinda Brown at 806.296.1100.
Other events include a Kids Corner with a rock wall and bouncy houses for the kids organized by the Wal-Mart
Distribution Center. Vendors will be located in the park area and will feature different food and drink items as
well as fun items to purchase. For vendor space, contact Joyce Sinor.
Gates open Friday night (5/4) at 6:00 p.m. and tickets are $15.00 for ages 12 and over and $10 for those 12
and under. On Saturday (5/5), gates will open at 9:00 a.m. and tickets are $20.00 for ages 12 and over and
$10 for those 12 and under. Coolers will be allowed both nights and include a $15.00 cooler fee. Tickets
include access to the venders, cookers, tournaments, concerts and beer garden.
