South Plains Association of Governments (SPAG) administering
Safe Room Rebate Program
The South Plains Association of Governments (SPAG) will be administering The Safe
Room Rebate Program. These grants are funded through Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) and the Texas Division of Emergency Management
(TDEM) and administered locally by our staff at the South Plains Association of
Governments (SPAG).
The grants will help better prepare the residents of the South
Plains to take shelter from potential storms. Eligible recipients include homeowners who
live in the following counties: Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hockley, King, Lamb,
Lubbock, Lynn, Motley, Bailey, Cochran, Crosby, Terry and Yoakum.
“"This is a great opportunity for our citizens," said Jeffrey Snyder, Plainview City
Manager.
As with any grant, there are standards and guidelines to apply to participate in this
program. The program is completely voluntary and is not retroactive - safe rooms
installed prior to being accepted to participate in the Program are not eligible for a
rebate. Applicants must own their home and must pay the contractor/installer in full
(out-of-pocket) to receive a 50% rebate of the eligible costs (up to a maximum rebate
of $3,000). Homes located in a local or FEMA – designated floodplain are not eligible for
the rebate program.
"A special thank you to SPAG for administering this program," said Mayor Wendell
Dunlap.
