HomeMy WebLinkAbout9.17 Ordinance Review Project 2 City of Plainview NEWS 901 Broadway St. Plainview, TX 79072 September 18, 2017 Public Invited to presentation on Zoning Ordinance, Sign Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations The City of Plainview will begin the initial phase of a 15-month process to update the Zoning Ordinance, Sign Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations. These Code of Ordinances set out the rules for the use and development of land in the City. Kendig Keast Collaborative (KKC), who have previously worked with the City to create the Plainview 2013 Comprehensive Plan, have been selected as a consultant for this process. Based in Texas, they are known for their expertise on customizing land development ordinances to individual local government needs. KKC staff member David Baird will serve as the firm’s project manager. Working very closely with Cris Valverde, Community Development Services Manager, he will serve as a liaison from KKC to ensure that the process meets the City’s needs. Mr. Baird will present a summary presentation of the project at two meeting on Thursday, Sept st 21 – the regularly scheduled City Council Workshop at 11:30 a.m. at the Plainview Civic Center and at a special Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. The public is invited to attend in order to discuss topics related to this project with the City Council, the Planning Commission, and the consultant. One of the recommendations from the 2013 Comprehensive Plan was the need for the City to make revisions to its Land Development Ordinances. Noted as the most critical was the Zoning Ordinance, Sign Ordinance and the Subdivision Regulations that would help create economic development opportunities while maintaining a high quality built environment. During this planning process there was extensive amount of public outreach in order to identify citizen needs. Since the plan’s adoption in 2013, the City has been using this document as a guide in planning for the City’s future. “This is an exciting project for the City,” said Cris Valverde, Community Development Services Manager, “KKC is familiar with Plainview’s need to revise our ordinances and we are looking forward to partnering with them as well as with the citizens of Plainview.
