HomeMy WebLinkAbout10.14.2024 Plainview Walk of Fame Committee to Host McCutcheon, Sisemore Ceremony Plainview Walk of Fame Committee to Host Lawrence McCutcheon & Jerry Sisemore Plaque th Unveiling Ceremony on Saturday, October 26 The Plainview Walk of Fame Committee will host a Plaque Unveiling Ceremony for Lawrence McCutcheon and Jerry Sisemore on Saturday, th October 26 at 10:00 a.m. in front of the Fair Theater (717 Broadway). The public is encouraged to attend. McCutcheon Lawrence McCutcheon was born and raised in Plainview; he began attending Plainview High School a year before integration to be eligible to play football the next year. After full integration in 1967, the linebacker played one year at Plainview High School, graduating in 1968. He played college football at Colorado State University, setting 20 records for the collegiate Rams. th Selected in Round 3, he was the 70 pick in the 1972 NFL draft to the Los Angeles Rams. McCutcheon played 89 games for the Rams including seven playoff games and in Super Bowl XIV. During his tenure with the Rams, McCutcheon gained a total of 6,186 yards on 1,425 carries. In addition to his five consecutive Pro Bowl appearances, McCutcheon was named Second-team All-Pro in 1974, All-NFC in 1977 and Second-team All-NFC in 1973, 1975 and 1976. McCutcheon also played for the Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills. After his football career, he joined the Ram’s personnel department in 1982 until his retirement in 2016. Currently retired, he resides in California. Sisemore Jerald Grant (Jerry) Sisemore was raised in Plainview and was an offensive lineman for the Plainview High School Bulldog football team. Sisemore received a scholarship to play at the University of Texas. At UT, he was considered one of the nation’s best lineman in 1971 & 1972 and was an all-conference and Unanimous All-American selection. He assisted the Longhorns during their unbeaten team with 30 games in the early 70’s; his senior year, Texas won its fifth consecutive Southwest Conference title and gained its fourth straight Cotton Bowl Classic bid. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2002. rd Sisemore was the 3 pick in the 1973 NFL draft and played with the Philadelphia Eagles. Considered one of the greatest offensive lineman in franchise history, he was big part of an offensive that made the NFL playoffs in 1978 and 1979 and Super Bowl XV in 1980. Sisemore played in two Pro Bowls before retiring after the 1985 season. During his career, he played in 156 NFL games, starting in 155 of them. He was inducted into the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame in 2002. Jerry currently resides in Austin; his brother Ricky still resides in Plainview.
