HomeMy WebLinkAbout06.02.16 June 2nd Friday Press Release City of Plainview NEWS 901 Broadway St. Plainview, TX 79072 June 2, 2016 nd June 2 Friday in Downtown Plainview Featuring “Dads & Kids” with Movie and WWAD nd The May 2 Friday will host a “Dads & Kids” Event on Friday, June 10,2016 in Downtown Plainview. Events are scheduled from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and include WWAD, a movie at the Fair and other events inside downtown businesses. The event will kick-off with the “Walk With a Doc” program at 5:30 p.m. at the Fair Theater (717 Broadway). Penny King will be giving a short speech about children’s nutrition and then walkers will enjoy a refreshing and rejuvenating walk with Dr. Travis King who will provide support and answer questions during the walk. “This will be the sixth Walk With a Doc event we’ve had in Plainview,” said Christine Cummins, Plainview WWAD Coordinator. “We are excited to be back downtown and Dr. King is a great fit for the ‘Dads & Kids’ event. We encourage everyone to join us!” The Plainview Walk With a Doc program is part of a state-wide initiative funded by a grant from the Texas Medical Association Foundation with major support from the Texas Medical Association Insurance Trust. Walk With A Doc is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to encourage healthy physical activity in people of all ages, and reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle in order to improve the health and well-being of the country. Sponsored by the Texas Medical Association and Covenant Hospital Plainview, the Walk With A Doc program allows physicians to interact with their patients outside the office, where they can see their doctors practice what they preach. Basically, what’s discussed in the office is put in motion outside the office. Also, the Fair Theater (717 Broadway) will showcase “Finding Nemo” at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $1.00 for adults and $1.00 for kids. Snacks will be available – popcorn, soda, water, pickles and candy for $1.00 as well. th “’Finding Dory’ will be coming to theaters on June 17 and we thought it would be a fun opportunity to show ‘Finding Nemo’ before the release,” said Tori Huddleston, Special Projects Assistant. “People love this movie and it is a great event for dads and kids or anyone to watch together.” One of Pixar’s classics, the movie begins as Nemo is taken from him by a diver and Marlin, his dad the clown fish, sets off on a journey to rescue him. Together with Dory, a blue tang fish with short term memory loss, they set off through the oceans, while joining a club with sharks, dodging jellyfish, and hooking a ride with turtles. While this is happening, Nemo and his new tank friends hatch a plan to escape from their new home.
