HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.27.15 Survey Deadline City of Plainview NEWS 901 Broadway St. Plainview, TX 79072 July 27, 2015 Alcohol Variance Survey ends Friday, July 31st st Plainview residents have until Friday, July 31 to voice their opinion on the Central Business District Alcohol Variance Survey. Paper ballots will be accepted at the Main Street Office (717 Broadway) until 5 p.m. and online ballots will be accepted electronically until midnight. The survey is available on the City of Plainview’s webpage at http://www.plainviewtx.org/index.aspx?nid=25 or paper ballots are available at the Main Street Office (717 Broadway). While alcohol sales are legal inside Plainview City limits, many of the Central Business District buildings are within 300 feet of a church, school or mission, thus prohibiting the sale of alcohol for businesses located in these buildings. This survey is a tool to gauge the public interest of allowing a zoning variance for alcohol sales in the Central Business District. “We want to remind people that there opinion matters,” said Philip Shackelford, Task Force member. “We want to have a great representation of what the public thinks before we take it to the different boards.” After the survey ends, the results will be tallied and announced on the City of Plainview’s website (www.plainviewtx.org) at the beginning of September. “It will take some time for the ballots to be processed correctly and to configure the information so that we have a clear picture of the results,” said Andrew Freeman, Assistant City Manager. “I know many people are anxious for the results and we want to ensure the public that this was done in a fair and concise manner to present the correct information.” The survey is presented by a joint effort of the Main Street Task Force and Plainview Downtown Association. ###
