HomeMy WebLinkAbout07.24.06 BA MinutesBOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS MINUTES 07/24/06 BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Kenny Brov~m, Fred Willis, James Crossland, Max Browning, Mazk Hardin STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: John Castro, Director of Community Services, Katy Seals -Community Services Secretary OTHER GUESTS PRESENT: Edilberto Arvizu, Homer Marquez, Sara Gowman Kenny Brown called the meeting to order at 7:00 FIRST ITEM ON THE AGENDA: Swear in new member Mark Hardin. SECOND ITEM ON THE AGENDA: Approval of May 2006 minutes. (No June meeting due to no pending cases.) Fred Willis made motion to approve minutes as presented. Max Browning seconded. Motion carried 5-0. THIRD ITEM ON THE AGENDA: BA Case # 1520 The request of Edilberto and Belen Arvizu for a variance of twenty-one (21) feet of the required twenty- five (25) foot front setback as stated in Section 34 of the City of Plainview Zoning Ordinance to construct a 24'X24' carport in a Single Family (R-2) Zoning District, and being Block 2, Lot 5, Warren Addition, Plainview, Hale County, Texas the same being 204 SE 7~' Street. Edilberto Arvizu is present to answer questions of the Board in regards to this case. Mr. Arvizu asked John Castro to translate for him. John Castro showed the Boazd a site plan of the proposed carport and pictures of the property. There were three (3) neighborhood responses received, all in favor of the request. Fred Willis asked if the carport would be placed next to the house. Mr. Arvizu said it will not actually be connected to the house but will set under the eave of the house Kenny Brown asked which direction will water drain. Mr Arvizu said it will be a pitched roof with rain gutters along each side. Fred Willis asked what type materials would be used in the construction of the carport. Mr. Arvizu said it will be made of 6" metal pipes and c-perlings. James Crossland made a motion to approve the variance based on this being the only logical place for the carport rind the positive response from the neighborhood. Fred Willis seconded. Boazd of Adjustments July 24, 2006 Minutes FOURTH ITEM ON THE AGENDA: BA Case # 1521 The request of Rogelio and Nelda Marquez for a variance of twenty-three (23) feet of the required twenty-five (25) foot front setback as stated in Section 34 of the City of Plainview Zoning Ordinance to construct a 23'X20' carport in a Single Family (R-2) Zoning District, and being Block 5, W 60 feet of Lot 18, Gazdenville Addition, Plainview, Hale County, Texas the same being 2108 W. 26~' Street. Homer Mazquez is present to answer questions from the Board about this request. John Castro showed the Board a picture of the property and a site plan of the proposed carport. There were no responses from the neighborhood received. James Crossland asked what type materials would be used in the construction of the carport. John Castro said according to the application, it would be 8 feet high, 2 X 6 c-perlin all around the carport, end wall columns 3/16 X 3 inch pipe and "r" panel for the roof. Max Browning made a motion to approve the variance based on this being the only logical place for a carport, no negative responses from the neighborhood, and because the carport is very similar to the one next door.
