HomeMy WebLinkAbout10.23.06 BA MinutesBOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS MINUTES 10/23/06 BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Kenny Brown, Fred Willis, James Crossland, Max Browning, Mark Hardin STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: John Castro, Director of Community Services, Katy Seals -Community Services Secretary OTHER GUESTS PRESENT: Raul Longoria, Victor Castillo Kenny Brown called the meeting to order at 7:00 FIRST ITEM ON THE AGENDA: Approval of August 2006 minutes (no September meeting due to no pending cases). Fred Willis made motion to approve minutes as presented. Mazk Hazdin seconded. Motion carried 5-0. SECOND ITEM ON THE AGENDA: BA Case # 1527-The request of Raul Longoria for a variance of twenty-five (25) feet of the required thirty (30) foot front setback as stated in Section 34 of the City of Plainview Zoning Ordinance to construct a 21'3"X25' carport in a Single Family (R-1) Zoning District, and being Block 5, West 38' of Lot 6 and the East 32' of Lot 7, Edgemere Addition, Plainview, Hale County, Texas the same being 2614 West 18th Street. Raul Longoria is present to answer questions from the 13oazd. John Castro showed the Board pictures of the property and a site plan of where the proposed carport would be placed on the property. There were three (3) responses received from the neighborhood, all in favor of the request. Fred Willis asked what materials would be used in the construction of the carport az~d Raul Longoria said he would be using metal to construct the carport. Kenny Brown asked if the cazport would cover the existing driveway and Raul Longoria said yes it would. Max Browning asked in which direction would the water drain from the carport and Raul Longoria said it would drain toward the street. Max Browning made a motion to approve the variance based on this being the only logical place for a carport and the positive responses from the neighborhood. Fred Willis seconded. Motion carried 5-0. THIRD ITEM ON THE AGENDA: BA Case # ]1528 The request of Victor Castillo for a variance of five (5) feet of the required five (5) side setback as stated in Section 34 of the City of Plainview Zoning Ordinance to construct an Boazd of Adjustments October 23, 2006 Minutes 16'8"X25' carport in a Single Family (R-2) Zoniing District, and being Block 7, Lot 4, Evergreen Addition, Plainview, Hale Cownty, Texas the same being 406 West 29th Street. Victor Castillo is present to answer questions from the Board. John Castro showed the Board pictures of the property and a site plan of where the proposed carport would be placed on the property. John Castro said the carport would line up with the side of the house and extend sideward to the edge of the existing driveway. There is an alley to they side of the property. There were two (2) responses received from the neighborhood, both in favor of the request. Fred Willis asked in which direction would the v/ater drain from the carport and Victor Castillo said it would drain toward the street. Fred Willis asked what materials would be used in the construction of the carport and Victor Castillo said he would be using metal to construct the carport. Fred Willis made a motion to approve the variance based on positive responses from the neighborhood and this being the only logical place for a carport. Max Browning seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
