RESOLUTION NO. R91-127
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PLAINVIEW, TEXAS,
REQUESTING THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL
JUSTICE CONSIDER PLAINVIEW AND HALE COUNTY
AS A SITE FOR A FUTURE DETENTION FACILITY.
WHEREAS, the City of Plainview, a community of 22,000, has access to an
excellent transportation system providing easy access from any area within
the State, a fine University and a Regional Hospital; and
WHEREAS, the diversification of business and industry in this area is vital to
the economic vitality of West Texas and the Texas Panhandle; and
WHEREAS, the location of a State detention facility in the Plainview/Hale
County area will provide diversification of business and industry and will
provide economic benefits to all of West Texas and the Texas Panhandle area;
and
WHEREAS, the location of other State detention facilities in the Texas
Panhandle and West Texas will allow for certain services to be shared and
result in a savings to the taxpayers of the State of Texas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Plainview, Texas, that the Texas Department of Criminal Justice be
encouraged to consider Plainview/Hale County as a site for a State detention
facility because of its favorable location and available resources.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the City of Plainview, Texas, encourages all the
citizens of Plainview and Hale County to support these efforts to expand the
economic base of our community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Plainview,
Texas, offers its assistance to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in
planning efforts or studies necessary for future site location of additional
State detention facilities in this area.
